Measure & build

Measure first.
Then build it to hold.

A dam is not rushed. You read the water and the timber before another log goes on. Dammetry uses that patience to turn complicated work into a structure that stays.

Idea

After it is built,
someone still tends it.

A beaver's dam holds a river because it is mended every day. We work the same way: see the line that must hold, then lay just enough material, piece by piece. The water changes, so a structure stays in someone's care.

Method

Usually, only these three steps.

01

Measure

Narrow the field. Find the one dimension that must hold, and set the other numbers aside.

02

Build

One piece at a time. Let this piece stand before the next one is set. The surface comes last.

03

Tend

Leave someone to look after it. When things change, the structure is still in someone's care.
